Original artwork, created from the beginning specifically for you.

Some artworks begin with an idea.

Some begin with a place, a memory, a feeling or a story.

And sometimes, you simply know that you want something that doesn’t exist yet.

A bespoke commission is an opportunity to create an entirely new Christopher Joseph artwork — developed from the beginning in conversation with you and created specifically for you, your story and the space it will inhabit.

There is no existing work to choose from.

We begin with a conversation.

THE CONVERSATION

Every commission begins by listening.

Perhaps there is a particular place that means something to you. A moment in time. A person. A season of life. Or simply a feeling that you want the artwork to hold.

You don’t need to arrive with a finished brief.

We can explore what you’re drawn to, what you want the work to express, where it will live and what you hope to feel when you encounter it.

Depending on the commission, that conversation might take place over the phone, over coffee, or somewhere that holds particular meaning for you.

From there, the creative process begins.

The Process

  • • THE CREATION

    The artwork is developed from scratch, allowing the ideas and conversation to guide the work.


    Depending on the commission, I may share moments from the process along the way — a voice note, a photograph, a glimpse of the work taking shape.


    For some commissions, this becomes something more: an ongoing visual and written journal of the work as it develops, created especially for you and kept alongside the finished piece.


    There is room for the work to breathe and evolve.


    The aim isn’t simply to illustrate an idea.


    It is to discover an artwork that carries something of what brought you to the commission in the first place.

  • • CREATED WITH YOU

    A commission is collaborative, but it isn’t about asking you to become the artist.


    My role is to take what you bring — the stories, places, feelings, references and ideas — and translate those things through my own visual language and practice.


    The result should feel unmistakably like a Christopher Joseph work, while carrying something that could only have come from this particular collaboration.

  • • THE REVEAL

    After the artwork has been completed, there is the moment of seeing it for the first time.


    The reveal can be part of the experience too.


    Depending on the commission, I may personally present the finished work in your home, or we may create a more intimate moment around its arrival.


    For some collectors, the reveal might become a gathering — a moment shared with family or the people who have been part of the story behind the work.


    Because sometimes the story of an artwork isn’t complete until it finds its place.

The Finished Work

The Bespoke Edition is individually considered for and with you.

Depending on the artwork, this may include:

  • original artwork created from scratch
  • bespoke scale and format
  • original or mixed-media processes
  • specialist materials and finishes
  • bespoke framing
  • installation or presentation
  • personal reveal
  • a personal journal documenting the creation
  • signed by Christopher Joseph
  • certificate of authenticity


The possibilities are many and will depend on the artwork, the story behind it and the creative direction we discover together.
